Akumin is a leading provider of outpatient radiology and oncology services, partnering with top hospitals and health systems nationwide to deliver advanced diagnostic imaging and exceptional patient care close to home. With a national footprint, cutting-edge technology, and a strong commitment to innovation and patient-centered care, our teams play a vital role in improving outcomes for millions of patients each year. The Director, IT Portfolio & Program Management to lead enterprise-wide IT portfolio governance while also serving as the operational PMO lead for our Fixed-Site imaging business — the largest and most complex segment of our IT delivery portfolio. This is a hybrid leadership role that blends strategic portfolio stewardship with hands-on program delivery management, requiring someone equally comfortable setting intake and prioritization policy at the enterprise level and rolling up their sleeves to manage active program & project delivery in a fast-paced, matrixed healthcare IT environment. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Enterprise IT Portfolio Governance Own and continuously mature the enterprise IT intake, governance, and prioritization process across all business units (Fixed-Site, Mobile Imaging, corporate functions). Design and facilitate portfolio steering committees and gate reviews, ensuring demand is scored, sequenced, and resourced against enterprise OKRs and capacity constraints. Maintain a single, consolidated portfolio view — active projects, pipeline demand, resource allocation, and risk — for executive and Board-level reporting. Partner with IT Leadership & Finance on capital planning, business case development, and portfolio-level ROI tracking. Establish and evolve portfolio management standards, templates, processes and tooling (e.g., PPM platforms, roadmap/Gantt tooling, OKR frameworks). Drive prioritization trade-off conversations across competing business unit demands with data-driven, transparent criteria. PMO Delivery Management — Fixed-Site IT Serve as the direct PMO lead for the IT deliverable portfolio supporting Fixed-Site imaging centers — the company's dominant business line. Manage a portfolio of concurrent projects and programs (e.g., RIS/PACS initiatives, patient portal expansion, interoperability/USCDI work, infrastructure and application delivery) from initiation through close. Experience managing delivery with vendor partners Apply Agile, hybrid, and traditional PM methods as appropriate to project type; run sprint/PI-level ceremonies where Agile teams are engaged. Manage scope, schedule, budget, risk, and stakeholder communication for Fixed-Site IT initiatives; escalate portfolio-level risks and resourcing conflicts. Build and maintain program dashboards and status reporting cadences for Fixed-Site operations, IT, and clinical leadership. Act as a trusted advisor to IT, Operations, Clinical, and Patient Services leadership on delivery capacity and prioritization trade-offs. Position Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience; Business, Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, or a related field 8+ years in IT Program/Project Management, including 3+ years in a Portfolio Management or PMO leadership capacity. Proven experience running enterprise-level intake, governance, and prioritization processes across multiple business units. Strong hands-on program/project delivery experience — not purely strategic/oversight background. Working fluency in both traditional PMO methodology (waterfall, PMI/PMBOK) and Agile/SAFe delivery (PI Planning, ARTs, backlog management, OKRs). Demonstrated ability to manage competing stakeholder priorities and communicate effectively with executive audiences. Experience building and presenting portfolio dashboards, roadmaps, and executive-level reporting materials. Preferred: Master's Degree or Equivalent Experience (MS, MA, MBA); Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, or similar advanced degree Healthcare industry experience, ideally in diagnostic imaging, radiology, or outpatient clinical operations.
