SAP ABAP Engineering Manager

We are looking for an experienced SAP ABAP Engineering Manager to lead and grow high-performing SAP engineering teams, drive enterprise-scale SAP transformation programs, and define modern SAP development standards across complex client landscapes. This role is ideal for a senior SAP technology professional with a strong background in SAP ABAP, ABAP Cloud, RAP, CDS, OData, SAP BTP, Fiori/UI5, enterprise architecture, clean core principles, and technical governance. The successful candidate will combine hands-on technical credibility with strong people leadership, delivery ownership, and the ability to engage with senior stakeholders across international environments. You will play a key role in shaping SAP engineering strategy, leading distributed teams, supporting S/4HANA transformation and modernization programs, and promoting innovation through modern development practices, automation, DevOps, and AI-augmented SAP solutions. Responsibilities Guide and expand geographically dispersed SAP engineering teams made up of senior developers, architects, consultants, and team leads operating across various locations Establish and enforce SAP architecture principles, development conventions, coding practices, and technical delivery frameworks to maintain consistency and high quality Steer large-scale SAP transformation programs, spanning S/4HANA rollouts, ECC modernization, ABAP Cloud enablement, and BTP-based extension initiatives Offer technical direction across the latest SAP technologies, including ABAP Cloud, RAP, CDS, OData v2/v4, SAP Fiori/UI5, and SAP BTP Safeguard clean core adherence, appropriate consumption of released APIs, extensibility best practices, and scalable enterprise-level solution design Supervise technical delivery quality via architecture assessments, code reviews, ATC checks, DevOps adoption, and reusable engineering guidelines Work closely with clients, delivery leadership, architects, and business stakeholders to convert business needs into resilient SAP technology solutions Contribute to presales and solutioning efforts, such as client workshops, effort sizing, technical proposals, and executive-level presentations Foster innovation within SAP engineering through AI-assisted development, automation initiatives, developer productivity enhancements, and modern engineering approaches Introduce knowledge-sharing routines, mentoring frameworks, and cross-regional collaboration models to reinforce SAP engineering capabilities Requirements 5+ years of applicable professional experience in SAP engineering, SAP development, enterprise architecture, or technical delivery leadership At least a year of demonstrated experience leading SAP development or engineering organizations, encompassing team leads, senior consultants, architects, and geographically distributed delivery teams Deep hands-on command of SAP ABAP, preferably spanning classical ABAP, ABAP Objects, ABAP Cloud, RAP, CDS, OData, and S/4HANA development Well-rounded understanding of SAP BTP, side-by-side extensibility, clean core strategy, released APIs, and current SAP extension patterns Real-world experience with SAP Fiori/UI5, OData services, CDS-driven service exposure, integration architecture, and enterprise system landscapes Substantial background in SAP transformation initiatives, S/4HANA rollouts, ECC modernization, system upgrades, or large-scale integration efforts Track record of setting up technical governance, architecture standards, and code quality frameworks including ABAP Clean Code, ATC rules, Git-based workflows, and CI/CD pipelines Demonstrated capability to interact successfully with senior client stakeholders, delivery leadership, business representatives, and cross-functional teams Well-developed people management skills covering hiring, mentoring, performance evaluation, team growth, and leadership of multicultural groups Advanced level (C1+) of English with excellent written and spoken communication skills Nice to have Command of the German language, offering a notable edge when interacting with clients in the DACH region Background in presales activities, solution design, estimation, technical consulting, or delivering presentations at the executive level Curiosity or applied experience with AI-augmented SAP development, automation, developer productivity tooling, or wider innovation programs We offer International projects with top brands Work with global teams of highly skilled, diverse peers Healthcare benefits Employee financial programs Paid time off and sick leave Upskilling, reskilling and certification courses Unlimited access to the LinkedIn Learning library and 22,000+ courses Global career opportunities Volunteer and community involvement opportunities EPAM Employee Groups Award-winning culture recognized by Glassdoor, Newsweek and LinkedIn
