It has been providing humanitarian aid in Georgia for more than 25 years. Forensic expert supports the ICRC Delegation in Tbilisi in its efforts to clarify the fate and whereabouts of persons who went missing in connection to the conflicts of the ’90s and 2008 and their aftermath. Purpose The Forensic Expert supports the ICRC’s forensic activities in Georgia, serving as a key focal point for cooperation with the National Forensic Bureau (NFB) in Tbilisi and contributing to effective professional dialogue and coordination. The role provides specialized forensic expertise in support of casework, identification processes and capacity-building activities, in line with recognized scientific standards and best practices. Accountability & Functional responsibilities Serve as the main focal point between the ICRC and the relevant National Forensic Bureau (NFB), facilitating effective professional cooperation, coordination and communication. Provide and apply forensic expertise in the relevant area of specialization (e.g. anthropology, archaeology, genetics, odontology, pathology, investigative techniques, or missing and unidentified persons data), in line with recognized scientific standards and best practices. Support forensic identification processes in close collaboration with the Identification Coordinator, including the preparation and review of technical and identification-related reports and documentation. Contribute to the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical guidelines, quality-assurance processes, and other relevant forensic documentation. Assess local forensic capacities, infrastructure, systems and procedures, and contribute to identifying areas for improvement and strengthening professional practices. Design and deliver training and capacity-building activities within the relevant area of forensic expertise. Participate in field missions, assessments and exhumations, as well as laboratory analytical work and laboratory visits, providing technical support and ensuring appropriate documentation. Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in relevant forensic databases and data repositories. People management responsibilities No Education and Technical Qualifications Master’s degree in forensic science, forensic medicine, biological sciences, or another relevant field related to forensic practice. Good computer literacy, including experience using databases and/or specialized software for forensic analysis and case management. Ability to prepare clear, accurate and technically complex forensic reports and documentation. Skills and Competencies: Strong analytical, organizational and attention-to-detail skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to different audiences. Ability to work independently and proactively, while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to manage competing priorities, work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines. High level of professional responsibility, integrity and discretion. Professional Experience required Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience in forensic practice, medico-legal investigations, forensic identification, human rights investigations, or the analysis and interpretation of complex forensic cases. Experience in conducting research, technical analysis and/or presenting findings to professional audiences. Experience applying and promoting professional, scientific and ethical standards within the relevant field of expertise. Experience in designing and delivering training or capacity-building activities. Experience within a law-enforcement, medico-legal or comparable institutional environment is an asset.
