Job description

29 August Senior Backend Developer Go · Distributed Systems · Real-time customer engagement platform (CRM) Remote or office · CRM Team About the Product: We are building a real-time customer engagement platform (CRM) delivered as a SaaS product serving multiple enterprise clients. The platform ingests player and user activity as live event streams — at volumes reaching millions of events per minute — and turns that stream into automated, personalized engagement: segmentation, triggers, automations, multi-stage lifecycle journeys, and multi-channel messaging (email, SMS, push, on-site). On top of the rules-based core, the platform includes a machine learning layer that decides the next best action for each individual user — which incentive to offer, how large it should be, and which channel to use — learning directly from each user`s full event history. Team Structure: Engineering is organized into two teams: ** CRM Team — builds the core platform: the backend systems and the operator dashboard. ** Machine Learning Team — builds the models: next-best-action, churn prediction, lifetime value, and risk detection. You will join the CRM Team as a senior engineer. The ML models consume the event stream and player state your systems produce, and their decisions are executed through the automation and messaging infrastructure you build and own. What You Will Do: ** Design, build, and own high-throughput backend services in Go that process millions of events per minute without falling behind. ** Own the architecture of core subsystems end to end — you make the design calls, defend them, and live with the consequences in production. ** Work with Apache Kafka as the backbone of the platform: producers, consumer groups, offset management, partitioning and rebalancing strategy, batching, and delivery guarantees (at-least-once, exactly-once patterns). ** Build and optimize data flows into ClickHouse (full event history, analytical queries) and PostgreSQL (current player state, high-frequency counter updates, operator-defined configuration) — including schema design, partitioning, and query tuning under write-heavy load. ** Develop the automation engine on Temporal: workflows that combine triggers, segments, and actions in real time. ** Build integrations: webhook receivers, connectors to external Kafka/RabbitMQ sources, and adapters for third-party messaging providers (email, SMS, push). ** Build and maintain the interfaces between the platform and the model layer — the event streams the models learn from and the action pipeline that executes their decisions. ** Own reliability: idempotency, deduplication, dead-letter handling, backpressure, capacity planning, and recovery from failure without data loss. ** Set the technical bar: review code and designs, mentor engineers around you, and raise the standard of what the team ships. What We Require: This is a senior role. We are hiring for demonstrated production experience, not potential. ** 5+ years building backend systems in production, with meaningful time spent on services where throughput, latency, or correctness under load was the hard part. ** Strong Go, or deep expertise in a comparable systems language plus a track record of picking up new stacks fast — we will expect you productive in Go within weeks. ** Hands-on production experience with event streaming — Kafka or an equivalent — including the operational side: consumer lag, rebalances, retention, replay, and what actually breaks at 3am. ** Deep distributed systems knowledge: ordering, idempotency, partial failure, consistency and delivery guarantees — applied in systems you shipped, not just read about. ** Serious database experience under load: PostgreSQL at high write volume, and/or a columnar store such as ClickHouse for analytical workloads. ** A record of owning systems in production: you have designed, shipped, operated, and debugged services that other people depended on. ** The instinct to ask why a system is designed the way it is, and the conviction to argue when the answer is wrong. ** Proficient English — good enough to read technical documentation, write clearly, and argue engineering problems with the team. Experience That Sets You Apart: ** Temporal or another workflow engine in production. ** Systems operating at genuinely high throughput and low latency — millions of events per minute, not thousands. ** Building data pipelines that feed model training and inference. ** Exactly-once or effectively-once pipelines built and defended in the real world. ** Google Cloud or another major cloud provider, with real operational ownership. ** Leading a technical direction or mentoring engineers without a formal management title. Who We Hire: Above everything else, we hire smart people. Seniority here means judgment and ownership — not years on a resume or a place in a hierarchy. ** Free Thinkers. We want people with strong convictions and open minds — intellectually diverse, contrarian when it counts. PhD or self-taught, it doesn`t matter: depth of thinking matters most. ** Catalysts. Nobody here waits for instructions. When you see a problem and a solution, you own it. That creates unusual freedom — and unusual responsibility. ** Independents. You won`t be evaluated by distant managers or process. You`ll be judged by outcomes, by people who are in the problem with you. Your work speaks for itself. ** Fast-Movers. We make decisions quickly and optimize for impact, not consensus. There is no bureaucratic distance between spotting a problem and fixing it. Where You Work: The job can be done from home or from the office — whichever works best for you.
