## Job description

We are seeking an experienced VMware Architect to join our team and help deliver a Unified Automation Platform. In this role, you will architect the automation and self-service provisioning model for the VMware estate, driving standardized, secure, and consistent infrastructure delivery across hybrid environments. You will collaborate closely with Network Architects and other specialists to establish the platform foundation, enabling multi-target deployment portability across Azure and on-premises VMware through unified configuration definitions. Responsibilities Architect the automation and self-service provisioning model for the VMware estate, including vSphere (VM provisioning, placement/resource-pool modules, cloud-init/cloudbase-init integration, and Ansible post-provisioning handoff) Design Infrastructure as Code modules for VMware DRS (affinity/anti-affinity rules, resource pools, automation levels) and vSAN (storage policies, cluster storage configuration) Develop VMware SRM (protection groups, recovery plans, inventory mappings) and VMware HCX (site pairing, service mesh, network extension, migration-profile templates) architecture to support disaster-recovery and workload-mobility automation Collaborate with the Network Architect on VMware NSX-T network segments, distributed firewall (DFW) rules/groups/tags, and load balancing/NAT, providing VMware-specific placement and compute context Define the integration pattern between VMware infrastructure and Azure VMware Solution (AVS), ensuring consistent identity and RBAC across hybrid environments, working with the Network Architect on ExpressRoute connectivity Establish testing and validation approaches appropriate to VMware's longer, environment-dependent test cycles (e.g., paired-site testing for HCX, failover testing for SRM), and design harnesses to support repeatable validation Provide architectural oversight during Implementation for priority VMware modules, and support production validation, pilot onboarding, and module lifecycle ownership during Adoption Requirements 10+ years of proven VMware architecture experience across vSphere, vSAN, SRM, and HCX in enterprise or service-provider environments Background in automating VMware infrastructure via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/OpenTofu) and Configuration as Code (Ansible), including dynamic inventory integration Knowledge of NSX-T network segmentation and distributed firewall (DFW) concepts sufficient to collaborate with the Network Architect on VMware networking Expertise in designing disaster-recovery automation (protection groups, recovery plans) and workload-migration tooling (site pairing, network extension) Familiarity with hybrid cloud connectivity patterns, including Azure VMware Solution (AVS) Competency in integrating VMware provisioning workflows with golden-image pipelines English proficiency at a B2+ level Nice to have Showcase of exposing VMware provisioning and lifecycle operations through a self-service developer portal (Backstage or equivalent) Familiarity with certificate and secrets integration for VMware workloads (Venafi, Key Vault/OpenBao) Understanding of Windows guest customization (cloudbase-init) and Linux cloud-init patterns within VMware environments Skills in change-control processes for network/security modifications in regulated or critical-infrastructure environments Exposure to GenAI-assisted IaC/module development practices to accelerate Terraform/Ansible authoring We offer We connect like-minded people Delivering innovative solutions to industry leaders, making a global impact Enjoyable working environment, whether it is the vibrant office or the comfort of your own home Opportunity to work abroad for up to two months per year Relocation opportunities within our offices in 55+ countries Corporate and social events We invest in your growth Leadership development, career advising, soft skills and well-being programs Certifications, including GCP, Azure and AWS Unlimited access to EPAM's internal learning database Free English classes with certified teachers We cover it all Participation in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan Monetary bonuses for engaging in the referral program Comprehensive medical & family care package Five trust days per year (sick leave without a medical certificate) Benefits package (sports activities, a variety of stores and services) EPAM is global leader in AI transformation engineering and integrated consulting, serving Forbes Global 2000 companies and ambitious startups.
