Job description

We are a British online loans company operating in the UK market, currently looking for a detail-oriented and responsible Underwriter to join our team. The role involves reviewing loan applications, assessing risk, and making informed decisions in line with company policies and procedures. The Underwriter plays a critical role in assessing loan applications within a regulated financial services environment. This position requires a dedicated and professional team player who can work accurately under strict procedures aligned with FCA requirements, while maintaining strong standards of both quality and productivity. From time to time, additional hours or shift flexibility may be required. While not mandatory, this is expected as part of a collaborative and customer-focused operation. Key Responsibilities Supporting customers throughout the loan application process in a professional and compliant manner. Reviewing and assessing credit reports provided by TransUnion and other relevant sources. Analysing customer creditworthiness, income, expenditure, and affordability in line with FCA policies and internal lending criteria. Collecting, reviewing, and verifying customer documentation, including bank statements and payslips. Requesting additional information from applicants via email when required. Making underwriting decisions in accordance with documented procedures and responsible lending principles. Handling daily underwriting workloads while meeting agreed quality and volume targets. Identify potential fraud or inconsistencies in applications. Maintaining accurate and complete records of underwriting decisions and supporting evidence. Working closely with back office, collections, and compliance teams to ensure consistent customer outcomes. Meet daily performance and quality targets Skills and Attributes Experience or strong interest in underwriting within a regulated financial services environment. Ability to follow detailed procedures and apply FCA-aligned underwriting standards consistently. Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail. Capable of managing high application volumes without compromising decision quality. Professional, reliable, and team-oriented. Willingness to provide support outside standard hours or shifts when required. Open to feedback and able to improve performance through coaching and review. Good written communication and organisational skills.
