About Eau Claire Legal Eau Claire Legal is a growing boutique law firm serving individuals, entrepreneurs, businesses, and mission-driven organizations in Wisconsin and Georgia. Our work includes civil-rights litigation, employment matters, business and contract disputes, personal injury, business formation, outside general counsel services, and other strategic legal matters. The firm maintains offices in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Kennesaw in the Metro Atlanta area, while operating primarily through a flexible remote model. We emphasize practical advice, plain-language communication, careful preparation, and meaningful results for our clients. The Opportunity Eau Claire Legal is seeking a Wisconsin- or Georgia-licensed attorney who wants to build a sustainable practice while developing experience in civil-rights litigation. This is a flexible independent-contractor opportunity that may be structured on either a part-time or full-time basis. The selected attorney may continue developing an existing practice area while working alongside firm leadership on civil-rights investigations and litigation. You do not need to arrive as an established civil-rights attorney. We are interested in attorneys with sound judgment, strong research and writing skills, and a genuine interest in developing experience in matters involving police misconduct, discrimination, constitutional rights, due process, employment rights, and government accountability. Attorneys with experience in employment law, criminal defense, personal injury, business litigation, nonprofit law, real estate, appellate practice, or another complementary area are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities The attorney will independently manage assigned and originated matters within the attorney’s areas of competence. Responsibilities may include: Conducting consultations and evaluating potential matters. Managing client relationships from engagement through resolution. Drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, demands, contracts, policies, settlement documents, and other legal materials. Conducting legal research and developing litigation strategy. Handling negotiations, depositions, hearings, mediation, and courtroom proceedings. Participating in civil-rights investigations and litigation with firm attorneys. Advising individuals, businesses, startups, and nonprofit organizations. Working with the firm’s case manager on intake, records, investigation, organization, scheduling, and client communication. Maintaining accurate files, deadlines, billing records, and client communications. Developing referral relationships and helping generate new business. Business development is an important part of this opportunity. The attorney will be expected to cultivate professional relationships and help expand the firm’s presence. Eau Claire Legal will also provide firm-generated leads based on jurisdiction, availability, capacity, and fit. Compensation and Firm Support This is an independent-contractor position compensated through collected legal fees rather than a guaranteed salary. The firm’s current compensation model allows attorneys to retain 90% of collected attorney fees attributable to their work , with 10% retained by the firm, subject to the written contractor agreement and agreed allocations for jointly handled matters. The selected attorney will also receive: Firm-paid professional-liability insurance. Payment or reimbursement of required annual bar dues. Access to firm-generated leads. Access to the firm’s shared case manager. Intake, engagement, billing, and case-management systems. Firm templates, technology, branding, and administrative infrastructure. Collaboration and mentorship on civil-rights litigation. Flexibility to work part-time or full-time. The ability to work remotely within Wisconsin or Georgia. A potential partner track and opportunity for future equity ownership. Partner-track eligibility is based on professional compatibility, sustained contribution, client service, firm growth, and a separately negotiated written agreement. Equity is not automatic or based solely on length of service. Qualifications Applicants must have: A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school. An active Wisconsin or Georgia law license in good standing. The ability to independently manage matters within their current area of competence. Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and client-communication skills. Sound judgment and careful attention to deadlines. A high level of professionalism, integrity, and reliability. Comfort working remotely and using shared case-management technology. An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to participate in business development. An interest in developing civil-rights litigation experience. A commitment to practical advice, plain-language communication, and client-centered representation. Civil-litigation experience is preferred but not required. Eau Claire Legal will consider an exceptional newer attorney who demonstrates maturity, initiative, strong writing ability, and an appropriate level of independence.
